Netflix Releases Premiere Schedule Including Marvel's Daredevil and The Wachowskis' Sense8
Netflix released a premiere schedule today that included Marvel's Daredevil and the Wachowskis' foray into television, Sense8. Sense8 didn't get a specific premiere date, but we now know that Daredevil will premiere on April 20.
Here are the descriptions for both shows, which first appeared on USA Today:
"Marvel's Daredevil (April 20): Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is a lawyer-turned-superhero daredevil by night in modern-day New York. Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and a combined Defenders series will appear at roughly one-year intervals.
Sense8 (later this year): Eight characters in different cities are connected by a simultaneous 'violent vision' in this drama from the Wachowskis (The Matrix)."
We're excited for Sense8, which looks like it could be another Heroes that hopefully doesn't fall quite so flat on its face. But the real news here is that the other Marvel series will only come out once a year. It was rumored that Jessica Jones would hit Netflix by the end of this year, but it looks like we'll have to wait until 2016.
And in response to rumors about Daredevil's darker tone compared to the rest of the MCU, executive producer Steven DeKnight confirmed that Netflix affords more freedom to tackle difficult subject matter: "We're able to explore morally gray areas, where you're rooting for the bad guy and questioning the good guy, which is more difficult on network TV." Then he equivocates, "but people shouldn't come to this expecting me to deliver the Spartacus of Marvel."
