Battlestar Galactica's Edward James Olmos Cast in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
For all the Battlestar Galactica/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans who were disappointed when Battlestar alum Lucy Lawless was (spoiler!) unceremoniously killed off in the season premiere, the geek crossover void will soon be filled by Edward James Olmos, who has been cast in a recurring role as Robert Gonzales. Gonzales does not appear in Marvel Comics, and details on the character are being kept very close to the chest, but Marvel has said that his appearance will have "massive repercussions for Director Coulson and his team."
"Edward James Olmos brings an amazing gravitas to any role he inhabits, something we knew we needed for Robert Gonzales," executive producer Jeph Loeb says. "When Olmos first appears on our series, everyone will have to take notice–including our favorite Agents."
Olmos garnered critical acclaim and several ALMA and Saturn awards for his portrayal of Commander Adama on Battlestar Galactica, and has also appeared in nerd-adjacent shows Dexter and The West Wing. He is the only Hispanic-American to be nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards, for his performance in Stand and Deliver.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on March 3 at 9:00 pm on ABC. It is unknown whether Olmos will appear in the premiere or a later episode, but he will definitely make an appearance sometime this spring.
