Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer # 2 and Screencaps Reveal Marvel's Darkest Movie Yet
On the whole, Marvel isn't particularly known for creating dark, ominous movies. In the past they have only dabbled in these themes, with movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and to a lesser extent Iron Man 3 being the darkest offerings, but we now know that with the announcement of Civil War etc. Marvel is about to go to a very dark place and it looks like that will all start with Avengers: Age of Ultron. The second trailer for Joss Whedon's big May 1st release debuted during last night's College Football Championships, revealing new scenes, new characters and what looks to be Marvel's darkest movie yet....
There's a lot to discuss from that action-packed couple of minutes, and as always, the best way to do that is with a select few screenshots.
First up, let's start off with one of Marvel's favorite tropes, it's Captain America getting his butt kicked and looking incredibly concerned. Here's Cap's cap"
Here he is looking concerned...
...and this is probably the reason he is looking so concerned. Even Ultron's cronies are powerful enough to serve Captain America up on a plate.
These scenes, whilst exciting, could be considered something of a given, but there were a couple of really interesting shots to emerge from the second Age of Ultron trailer, starting with this one of a mysterious woman in an equally mysterious cave:
The internet is already alight with speculation about this woman's identity and origin. I'm leaning towards the idea that this is someone from Black Panther's realm of Wakanda, more specifically, this looks like it could be one of his elite bodyguards who are know as the Dora Milaje. If this is true, Avengers: Age of Ultron just became a whole lot more interesting.
The appearance of the Dora Milaje would add credence to the notion that Andy Serkis is playing famed Black Panther villain, Ulysses Klaw, the man charged with hunting down the King of Wakanda.
Another key theme throughout the trailer is one of mental strife. Something is placing a serious emotional strain on the Avengers crew, but it's Hulk and Black Widow that appear to be wearing the bulk of this burden. Hulk's problems are indicated in his red eyes (as seen in the top image) and the fact that Iron Man has seen fit to break out the Hulkbuster armor (more on that later), but Black Widow's problems manifest in the form of a vision to her disturbing past.
The source of these emotional problems is almost certainly Scarlet Witch, who tends to have that effect on people. Unfortunately, we don't get to see much of her in this trailer, so, on to the next point...
Now it's time to look at a couple of characters doing their best Darth Sidious impressions. This is the kind of behaviour that you would expect from Ultron...
...but when did Thor pick up this trick?
Finally, let's take another look at the scene that everybody wants to see. It's Hulk vs Hulkbuster.
Does anybody really see any conceivable scenario in which Hulkbuster wins this fight? Looks like we will have to wait and see.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is released on May 1st 2015 and it looks as though after the events contained within it, nothing in the MCU will ever be the same again.
