Doctor Who and Other BBC Shows May Be Expiring From Netflix in February
It was recently reported that BBC favorites such as Doctor Who (classic and new), Luther, Blackadder, and the original House of Cards would be disappearing from Netflix as a result of an expiring contract. (Or in other words, if you were planning on binge-watching any of these shows, do it now.)
Best of Netflix claims, from a "source close to Netflix," that they are still attempting to reach a deal, and that shows with large and vocal fanbases might be added again shortly after their scheduled removal from the streaming service. However, these reports are unsubstantiated, and for now it seems that the shows will be removed, for the time being at least.
If any show is going to be re-added, it will most likely be cult favorite Doctor Who, which already has a fan petition to keep it on Netflix. The petition already has 30,000 signatures, which could actually help the show stay online. A similar situation recently occurred with the popular sitcom Scrubs, which was nearly removed from Netflix but then renewed as a result of fan uproar.
