New Trailer For Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE Shows The World Isn't Ready For Artificial Intelligence
With all this talk of great minds being terrified of artificial intelligence, the timing for Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE couldn't be better. In this new UK trailer for the March 6th release, we see CHAPPIE the robot evolve from birth, to child, to hero as he brought into a world that is terrified of what he is capable of. Previous footage has really only shown us CHAPPIE's earlier stages of development, but now we get to see the robot launch into hero mode as a terrible force is unleashed upon the world.
Despite having a robot as its protagonist, CHAPPIE looks like it will be a rather human tale as we see a naive A.I slowly shaped by his environment and adopting some of the best and worst aspects of human nature. As his abilities develop at a remarkable speed, his creator, played by the brilliant Dev Patel, struggles to keep CHAPPIE on the right path and when the talented robot is kidnapped by a gang of criminals, CHAPPIE finds himself at a crossroad having to choose between good and evil.
CHAPPIE stars Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley. You can see it in theaters starting March 6th. Check out the official synopsis for Blomkamp's movie below:
"Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever."
