Shaun of the Dead's Simon Pegg to Co-Write Star Trek 3
Star Trek 3 was thrown for a loop late last year when writer/director Roberto Orci exited the project (although he stayed on as producer). He's been replaced as director by Justin Lin, and now Deadline reports that the writing duties will be taken over by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung.
Pegg is arguably best known for writing modern cult classics Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and World's End, as well as for his acclaimed comedy series Spaced. He's also no stranger to the rebooted Star Trek franchise, as he has played Montgomery "Scotty" Scott ever since J.J. Abrams took the wheel. He will co-write the film with Jung, whose most high-profile credit is as creator of Dark Blue, the undercover cop series starring Dylan McDermott. He reportedly impressed Paramount executives with his draft of their upcoming film, Diamond.
Star Trek 3 comes out on July 8, 2016.
