The First Fantastic Four Trailer Is Finally Here!
After months of waiting, the first trailer for Josh Trank's Fantastic Four is finally here and it's absolutely not what we expected. Featuring the dark, emotive voice over that appears to be so on-trend right now, the trailer focuses on the origins of the movie's four stars, but it's what happens in the latter stages that was really eye-catching.
If Trank and Fox wanted to distance themselves from the the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four movies, they've gone the right way about it. This trailer couldn't be more tonally different from Tim Story's movies if it tried. Dark, gritty, emotive, it's clear that Fox have taken a page out of Marvel's playbook and created a real sense of dread and terror for their heroes to deal with. There's no sign of the childish antics from the first two movies here, and while I'm not completely sold on it, this teaser was far better than I imagined it would be.
Josh Trank recently revealed that he wanted this movie to be "Cronenbeg-ian", stating that he wanted to make The Fantastic Four feel more like a science fiction film. That much is evident from this trailer, with half the shots focusing on its spacesuited heroes, and scientific facilities. Science is a huge part of the Fantastic Four franchise, and it's reassuring to see that being recognized by the movie's creators.
The Fantastic Four hits theaters August 7th.
