Watch the Opening Scenes of The Walking Dead Midseason Premiere This Weekend
The opening scenes of the Walking Dead midseason premiere have hit the internet, and they seem to confirm that the back half of season five will be an entirely different show.
It starts off depressing enough, with glimpses of Beth's burial and funeral, but over the course of the first two-and-a-half minutes, already seems to be more hopeful than Walking Dead fans are used to. When Noah tells Rick about the Alexandria Safe Zone, they all agree to go without much fuss, with Michonne, of all people, determined to find a permanent home and Rick saying, "It's a long trip, but if it works out, then it's the last long trip we have to make." Then the clip ends on a chalk drawing of a sun. A sun. What is this nonsense?
Just kidding, I think it's definitely time for The Walking Dead to undergo a tone shift. With the crazy popularity of the show, it would be too easy for the writers to rest on their laurels and maintain consistency without injecting new life into it. After five seasons, the audience probably needs a break from the unrelenting grimness.
The Walking Dead midseason premiere airs on Sunday at 9pm ET on AMC.
