Felicity Jones in Talks to Star in Gareth Edwards's Star Wars Standalone Film
Looks like we won't be having our Clone Wars dance party after all. After weeks of rumors that Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany was the frontrunner to star in the standalone Star Wars film, it has now been confirmed that Oscar nominee Felicity Jones will take the lead in Gareth Edwards's upcoming Star Wars installment.
Jones is technically still in talks for the role, but it appears to be all but a done deal. The Theory of Everything actress has been meeting and reading for the part for several weeks, along with Maslany and fellow Oscar nominee Rooney Mara. We're disappointed that Maslany won't be getting some long overdue mainstream attention, as Jones has already achieved, but Jones is obviously equally talented, so this is good news overall.
The project is very hush-hush, with no word on which character Jones will be playing or where the film will fall within the franchise's continuity. The only other news on the project involves the male lead, which is rumored to be either Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul or Zero Dark Thirty's Edgar Ramirez.
The Star Wars standalone film is currently set to be released on December 16, 2016.
