There May Be More Hunger Games Sequels/Prequels After Mockingjay: Pt 2
The Hunger Games cash cow doesn't run out until November, but Lionsgate is already looking for a way to squeeze a little (read: a lot) more money out of Hunger Games fans. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer was recently quoted as saying that he's "actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities."
Even as someone who only casually enjoys the Hunger Games film series, this sounds like a terrible idea. As far as we know, there are no plans for Suzanne Collins to release any more novels, and especially after the final book was somewhat unnecessarily split into two movies, producing a prequel or spin-off sequel would seem like nothing more than a cynical cash grab.
Lionsgate also announced this morning that they would release The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 2 in IMAX 3-D. "Fans will now have the chance to see the film in any format they want, which is exciting," director Francis Lawrence said in a release."We recently saw the 3D version of Mockingjay – Part 1 before its release in China, and the new level of immersion was really fantastic."
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt 2 opens on November 20.
