Stunning Jupiter Ascending Concept Art Will Make Your Forget The Movie's Many Flaws
The Wachowsi's Jupiter Ascending debuted at theaters this past weekend, and while the movie has been widely panned for its nonsensical plot, one thing that most people agree on is that the visuals contained within it are top-notch. Much of Jupiter Ascending's $180 million budget was spent on building the convoluted but beautiful universe which served as the backdrop for the Wachowski's sci-fi Cinderella tale, and the result was a sci-fantasy aesthetic that, despite all the negative press surrounding the movie, should stand as the projects legacy in the years to come.
George Hull was one of the lead coneptual designers on Jupiter Ascending, and in an interview with io9 last week, he revealed that the Wachowski's were, unsurprisingly, looking for an over the top aesthetic the likes of which we had never seen before. Taking inspiration from the Brutalist architectural movement of the mid 20th century, Hull went about creating concepts for Jupiter Ascending which reflect the massive scale on which the Wachowski's wanted to create their movie.
