Firefly and Gotham's Morena Baccarin Has Joined Fox's Deadpool Movie as the Female Lead
The casting announcements for Fox's upcoming Deadpool movie are coming in thick and fast. After learning that the studio had signed MMA fighter Gina Carano and getting hints that they would be recasting X-Men regular, Colossus, it has been revealed today that Firefly and Gotham's Morena Baccarin has secured the movie's female lead.
Not too long ago it was reported that Baccarin was one of 6 actors up for the role of Deadpool's leading lady, with the likes of Taylor Schilling, Jessica De Gouw and Sarah Green all among the hopefuls. But Baccarin appears to have one the battle for the coveted role after THR confirmed the appointment this afternoon.
Up until now, only Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular 'Merc with a Mouth', Gina Carano and T.J Miller had been confirmed for the movie, with Ed Skrein highly likely to be joining the project. It's still not 100% known which characters will be featuring in the Deadpool movie, but since being leaked earlier this week, a series of casting calls have been poured over by fans leading to plenty of rumors. As for Baccarin's role, Deadpool's mutant love-interest, Copycat, and the genetically engineered warrior, Domino, are among the leading theories right now.
20th Century Fox's Deadpool movie will be directed by Tim Miller from a script written by Zombieland's Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is slated for a February 12th 2016 release.
