Watch: First Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller 'Self/Less' Starring Ryan Reynolds and Ben Kingsley
The first trailer for Tarsem Singh's sci-fi thriller Self/Less has arrived, featuring Ben Kingsley as a wealthy man who transfers his consciousness into Ryan Reynolds's body:
Judging from the trailer, this premise has the potential to be compelling from an ethical standpoint, as it seems that Kingsley's character is falsely led to believe that Reynolds's body is an "empty shell," when in reality, he may have been an innocent person who was killed in order to serve as a rich man's avatar. It might be a little too action-packed to explore the class issues in much depth, but at least it looks like fun.
Singh is best-known for Immortals and Mirror, Mirror, neither of which received stellar reviews. But the premise is interesting (or at least could be interesting), and the cast is extremely talented, as it also includes Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery and Matthew Goode as the scientist responsible for the body-switching hijinks.
And, in case you missed it, here's the viral video for the fictional biogenics company that came out earlier this week, which is somewhat reminiscent of those Veridian Dynamics commercials from Better Off Ted:
Self/Less is scheduled to come out in theaters on July 31.
