Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth Cast in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2
In another case of Sci-Fi sequels we never asked for, Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2 is starting to take shape. After casting Jessie Usher as Independence Day 2's leading man, Emmerich announced two big new cast members for the project last night, via Twitter.
Of course, Goldblum will be known by many for starring alongside Will Smith in Emmerich's original 1999, but his Independence Day co-star has already stated that he will not be returning. Instead, the sequel's star will be Usher who is set to play Steven Hiller, the son of Smith's character from the first movie. At this point, it's unclear what Hemsworth's role will be in the movie, but it would seem he is more than likely to take the form of one of Earth's heroes who has to battle another alien invasion.
Here's how Emmerich described the two-part sequel to Independence Day way back in 2013.
"The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that's 20 or 25 years."
Independence Day 2 is scheduled to hit theaters June 24th 2016.
