Netflix Saves Firefly, Buffy, and Angel - But Still Might Let Go of The X-Files
For those of you who, like me, planned to do an epic binge-watch of The X-Files right before the reboot comes out, you might want to get started a little earlier. Netflix just renewed the contracts of Joss Whedon shows Firefly, Buffy, and Angel, but as of now is still letting The X-Files expire in April.
According to All Your Screens, which compiles a complete list of Netflix's expiration schedule (or as complete as humanly possible, considering how difficult Netflix makes it to find out), The X-Files, alien teen drama Roswell, and all of Joss Whedon's shows except for Dollhouse were scheduled to expire in April. Netflix has now renewed Firefly, Buffy, Angel, and Roswell, although "it's unclear for how long." But so far, there are no plans to renew the show that made all of us believe.
This is good news for Whedonites (especially those of us who have literally worn out our Buffy DVDs), but terrible news for X-Files fans. If it happens, then at least we'll have the reboot to look forward to, but it'll be much harder to convert new fans before it comes out. Let the frantic re-watching begin!
