Leaked Script Details Suggest Terminator Genisys WIll Be a Hot Mess of a Movie
Details from the script of Terminator Genisys have reportedly been leaked, and if they're accurate, which I am in no way claiming they are, this is going the be the most brain-achingly bizarre movie of the year. Grab your pinching salt and come with us on a trip to the potentially spoiler-laden world that is the script details secured by What Culture.
Potentially Major Spoilers Below
What Culture lists out 12 major plot points from the leaked script and they range from minor details about the conscious decision to make the the film more comedic and shoddy Apple product placement, to potentially huge spoilers about the roles that some of the movie's robot stars will play in the production.
First off, there's the alarming suggestion that the movie will wipe out both the T-800 and the T-850 as well as the T-1000 before the movie reaches its halfway point. Wiping out everything you've based your marketing on before moviegoers have even started considering a popcorn refill seems like a strange move. But really, should we be surprised? The fact that we've seen so much of these robots means that, if they were booted off halfway into the movie, it at least allows the production to deliver a few twists and turns heading into its climax. Unfortunately, those twists and turns sound so hair-brained they belong in a 1980's B-movie.....
Yes, one of the biggest details comes in the form of Terminator Genisys's big bad. No, it's not the T-1000, and it's not any of the other robots you've seen in the trailer. According to the leak, the movie's big villain is the T-5000 (holy wow, that's 5x more bad than the T-1000!) and according to the report, "It's reportedly an advanced prototype Terminator able to transform itself into a giant swarm of nanomachines, and furthermore, it can somehow influence organic matter, infecting living humans with some of its nanomachines in order to influence their behaviour and possibly more." Ok, the nanobots I can get on board with, after all, this does seem like the natural progression for advance battle bots, but just wait until you hear what the report proposes these nanobots get up to.
The leaked details suggest that early in the film, John Connor falls prey to the T-5000 nanobots and from there on in becomes an unstoppable force hellbent on taking out everything that the real John Connor holds dear. It's at this point that my reaction is to start doubting the reliability of the source, but you know what? This movie has been sounding more and more bonkers with every new detail that emerges, so anything is possible.
The leak also reveals that nanobot John Connor joins everyone in the year 2017 in an attempt to keep Skynet alive, attempting to kill Kyle and Sarah in the process. Unfortunately for him, the good T-800 now nicknamed 'Pops', succeeds in blowing up Cyberdyne and taking T-5000 down with it. Could this be the big reset that was teased when details of the movie first started to emerge? Taking a character who, throughout the entire franchise has been labelled humanity's saviour, then turning him into a villain is certainly a reset, but it's more akin to smashing a big red reset button with a hammer than a subtle tweaking of the franchise's canon.
In addition to these major plot points, the report also comments on some cheesy dialogue (ultimately more believable than everything above) as well as the fact that everything ends on a major cliffhanger. But if those spoilers about the new bots are true, it could be that the mess that is Terminator Genisys spans well beyond its title's poor spelling.
What do you think? Are you buying it?
