Jada Pinkett-Smith Won't Return for a Second Season of Gotham
Did Jada Pinkett-Smith just reveal a major spoiler for Fish Mooney fans? While appearing on "Live! with Kelly and Michael," the Gotham star revealed that her contract is up at the end of this season, and there are no plans to renew it as of now:
They begin to discuss Pinkett-Smith's role on Gotham around the 4:50 mark, and when asked if she'll return for a second season, she says, "I don't think so. I signed for a year, and you know, the year's up, so..."
It wasn't definitive, but her tone seems to suggest that it's all but set in stone. There are four episodes left in the season, and it seems that her character will either be written off or killed off. Honestly, it looks to me like her character is done for, and not just because we've pretty much been predicting that since the beginning of the season.
I'll be sorry to see her go, as Pinkett-Smith is clearly having so much fun hamming it up, not to mention that she adds sorely needed diversity to an almost entirely white male cast, but it's probably a necessary evil. Especially with that recent eye-gouging debacle, the character is too over-the-top to last too long, and Cobblepot will likely need to get rid of her in order to ascend to the top of Gotham's criminal underworld.
Gotham airs on Mondays at 8pm ET on Fox.
