James Gunn Claims Marvel is Skipping San Diego Comic Con 2015
Will Marvel opt out of the biggest nerd event of the year? According to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, the comics juggernaut will skip San Diego Comic Con 2015.
During an "impromptu Q&A" on his Facebook page, Gunn was asked whether he would be in San Diego for Comic Con on July 9-12, and he replied, "I'm not sure. Marvel isn't going so I'm not sure I will either."
This wouldn't come as a huge surprise, as Marvel has enough power to hold secret conferences to make a slew of announcements without any other pesky distractions. But this would mark the first time Marvel wouldn't make an appearance at the event since 2006, and there had been rumors that they would take the opportunity to unveil the new Spider-Man actor. Plus, now they'll leave the field open for Warner Bros. to make big announcements without any real competition (except for maybe Fox).
But for any of you who are disappointed, you might want to try to make it to New York Comic Con this year. Marvel Comics (although not Marvel Studios) is based in NYC, so they tend to consider New York their "home," and they may have some big announcements come October, especially if they skip San Diego.
