The Entire Pilot Episode of Powers Is Now Available Online
The first episode of Sony's adaptation of Image/Icon Comics's Powers aired on Playstation TV today, but since we've been very good this year the powers-that-be (no pun intended) have seen fit to put it on YouTube as well.
Powers stars District 9 and Chappie's Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward as two homicide detectives who are tasked with investigating murders involving people with superhuman abilities. The show essentially combines the superhero genre with crime noir and police procedural, the latter of which has definitely proven to be a winning formula on television, and is the first original programming from PlayStation.
I haven't seen the pilot yet, but the show seems to be full of potential. The comics were written by industry legend Brian Michael Bendis and were highly acclaimed, winning the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2001. Chappie may have been a veritable disaster, but Sharlto Copley was by far the best thing about it, living up to the great performance he gave in District 9. Michelle Forbes, who turned in acclaimed performances in geek shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Orphan Black, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, has also joined the cast, and the first two episodes will be directed by David Slade, who was behind the underrated indie film Hard Candy as well as several episodes of Breaking Bad (he also directed The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, but we can forgive him for that).
