Revisit A Sci-Fi Classic With This Fantastic Blade Runner Re-Release Trailer
With all this talk about a Blade Runner sequel and whether it's a good idea or not, it's quite easy to forget about Ridley Scott's magical original and all of those little moments, which combined to make it one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. Thankfully, the British Film Institute (BFI) has solved all that with this fantastic trailer for their upcoming big screen re-release of the movie that first captivated audiences back in 1982.
"The Final Cut is my definitive version of Blade Runner, and I'm thrilled that audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy it in the way I intended - on the big screen," said Ridley Scott. "This new trailer captures the essence of the film and I hope will inspire a new generation to see Blade Runner when it is re-released."
Unfortunately, this big screen re-release of Blade Runner will only be available in the UK, but I'm holding out hope that some enterprising bugger in North America will recognize the potential of a similar event across the pond. Scott is right, of course; Blade Runner is one of those movies which really would is best appreciated on the big screen, but this HD trailer on a smaller screen is still a real treat. It also begs the question of whether or not we really need a sequel. When a movie which was released all the way back in 1982 can still deliver so much, does it really need a new 'modern' entry? Certainly most of Blade Runner's fans don't want a sequel, so are we just risking the integrity of this sci-fi treasure for the purposes of a studio's bank account?
Hopefully this will be a debate that continues after the UK screenings of Blade Runner, which are set to begin on April 3rd.
