Tron 3 Confirmed, Will Start Shooting This Fall
Remember Tron: Legacy? It was that beautiful 2010 sequel to Tron, which was, unfortunately, painfully short on plot. Well, Joseph Kosinski, the man who directed the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic, is reportedly returning to shoot a third Tron movie this fall. According to Vancouver blog, VanCityBuzz reported this afternoon that Disney has greenlit the project with filming expected to commence in early October.
The report continues, stating that Garrett Hedund is, at this point, the only confirmed casting member for the production. In Tron: Legacy, Hedlund played Sam Flynn, the son of Tron's protagonist Kevin Flynn who became trapped in the computer program he created. While both Tron movies were visually breathtaking, the sequel lacked the sci-fi narrative of its predecessor. Kosinski's next directorial effort, Oblivion, was a marked improvement on Legacy, but again it lacked a truly gripping story. Hopefully Kosinski continues this upwards trend, because Tron is a franchise that really is dear to my heart and I would love to see another entry which manages to capture the same sense of wonder as Steven Lisberger's original. Mind you, getting Daft Punk to return for the soundtrack would be a fine start!
