Marvel's Daredevil Cast 6 Supporting Characters Including Melvin Potter aka Gladiator
Earlier this week, the first full trailer for Marvel's Daredevil revealed how dark and gritty the new Netflix show would be, with Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of the villainous Kingpin a real highlight. Today, Marvel announced the actors playing 6 of the show's supporting characters ranging from familiar faces from the comics to all new characters created specifically for the MCU.
See below for a list of the actors and characters involved in this latest casting announcement.
- Rob Morgan (Person of Interest) plays Turk Barrett
- Matt Gerald (Dexter) plays Melvin Potter
- Peter Shinkoda (Falling Skies) plays Nobu
- Wai Ching Ho (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit) plays Madame Gao
- Nikolai Nikolaeff (Camp) plays Vladimir
- Gideon Emery (Grimm) plays Anatoly
Of all these characters, arguably the most exciting is that of Matt Gerald's character, Melvin Potter. In Marvel's Daredevil comics, Melvin Potter gains the nickname 'Gladiator' after creating a bladed costume with which to take down the hero of Hells Kitchen. It will be interesting to see what Marvel do with Potter, who is being described as a "'Machinist' caught between a rock and hard place" on the official Marvel announcement. After several failed attempts to take down New York's costumed heroes, he eventually reforms and actually becomes a bodyguard for Matt Murdock, although how closely the Netflix show sticks to comic book canon remains to be seen.
With these latest casting announcements, the villainy of Hells Kitchen is really starting to take shape. With D'Onofrio's Kingpin pulling the strings, it looks as though Matt Murdock and co. are going to have their hands full, especially if Turk Barrett's Thunderbolts Gang makes an appearance.
"With an already tremendous cast, these six actors help to fully flesh out Matt Murdock's world and give life to Hell's Kitchen," said Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb. "We've been blessed to work with such amazing actors on this series to create a truly remarkable first season."
Marvel's Daredevil hits Netflix in its entirety on April 10th
