The Best Star Wars: Rogue One Fan Reactions and Theories
It was announced today that the Gareth Edwards' standalone Star Wars movie would be titled Star Wars: Rogue One, and as is the case with any official Star Wars announcement, it's all anyone on the internet can talk about. Well, that and Frozen 2, but let's focus on Star Wars for now.
As soon as Rogue One was announced, the majority of fans made the natural connection to Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
If ROGUE ONE was just cut scene footage from Rogue Squadron on N64 it would still make a billion dollars.— Sean Hutchinson (@SeanBHutchinson) March 12, 2015
As Sean Hutchinson eludes above, Rogue Squadron was classic Star Wars video game, which followed Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles and some of the Rebellion's greatest pilots on a selection of daring missions during the time period between Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. A movie focusing on these missions would be exceedingly entertaining, but it would need some tweaking due to the character's which feature in it. Bob Iger said in his announcement that "Rogue One is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga.", and I wouldn't consider Luke or Wedge to fit that description.
But Star Wars fans being Star Wars fans, the Internet was soon awash with a plethora of interesting theories as to what Rogue One's plot may entail.
Some were rather outlandish like this one from our pal, Aaron Sagers.

Others were incredibly concerning....

Plus, let's not forget that everyone loves C-3PO, and Anthony Davis is, after all, one of few actors who have appeared in every movie so far.
Can't help but hope that ROGUE ONE pulls a "Revenge of the Jedi" on us and is all like "JK it's really a C-3PO solo movie".— Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) March 12, 2015
But honestly, every time there's talk of a new Star Wars movie or TV show, I always ask the same thing. Will Porkins Feature In It? And it would seem that with the potential of Rogue One exploring the life of rebel pilots, Porkins fans are coming out of the woodwork left right and center. It's just a shame that as talented as she is, we can't really imagine Felicity Jones pulling off a performance as everyone's favorite corpulent pilot.

I'm really pulling for the next spinoff to be a Jek Tono Porkins biopic like but really tastefully done— Walter Hickey (@WaltHickey) March 12, 2015
But if that all fails, there's always a tried and tested formula to fall back on.
