Guardians of the Galaxy: James Gunn Reveals Why Baby Groot Didn't Want Drax to See Him Dancing
Since the release of Guardians of the Galaxy last summer, Dancing Baby Groot has become a pop culture phenomenon, and arguably the most beloved part of an already endearing film. The scene was so cute, everyone just sort of forgot to ask the (semi) burning question: why didn't baby Groot want Drax to see him dancing?
Here's the original scene from Guardians of the Galaxy:
Speaking to the podcast Doug Loves Movies, director James Gunn revealed that a deleted scene explained this dynamic between Groot and Drax in greater depth, and if Drax were in charge, the world would be full-on Footloose:
There was actually a scene that we cut from the movie where big Groot was dancing to 'Livin' Thing' by ELO. And it wasn't such an elaborate dance. It was more that he was just moving up and down like this, and Drax was dismissive and gave him this look like he was a loser when he did that.
Dancing is ludicrous to Drax. I don't think he understands it. If Drax owned a town, if he was a mayor, the first law would be no dancing. But yeah, so at the end of the movie, little baby Groot didn't want to get caught dancing, because he would kill him.
We thought that Groot was just embarrassed because dancing is generally embarrassing, but this makes a little more sense, I guess.
Just for good measure:
