Watch: Chilling Proof-of-Concept Teaser for Sci-Fi Film 'The Leviathan'
Ruairí Robinson wants to make a film called Leviathan based on this beautifully rendered (not to mention frightening) sci-fi short, and based on this footage, we hope he does:
The text at the beginning is kind of small, so for those of you who are watching it in the player, it says, "By the early 22nd century, mankind had colonized many worlds. Faster than light [sic] travel was made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor."
The movie, whose tagline as of now is "Join the hunt," seems to follow a white whale-type search for the terrifying Leviathan, which resembles a mixture of a whale, a pirahna, and a- demon(?). Part Moby-Dick, part Cloverfield, part Dune, this movie seems to have an enormous amount of potential. It also has incredibly impressive talent behind it; Ruairí Robinson, whose sci-fi short Fifty Percent Grey was nominated for an Oscar in 2002, is the director, while the script was written by Fight Club's Jim Uhls and the titular creature was designed by Jordu Schell, one of the principal designers of the Na'vi for Avatar.
