Simon Pegg: Idris Elba Will Not Play a Klingon in Star Trek 3
We're lukewarm about the current Star Trek reboot at best, but even we were ecstatic to find out that Luther and Marvel alum Idris Elba would be playing the primary villain in the upcoming Star Trek 3. Early rumors suggested that he may play the leader of the Klingons, but now Star Trek 3 star and writer Simon Pegg claims that these speculations are "not true."

In this brief interview with Absolute Radio, he seems to categorically reject the idea that Elba is playing a Klingon in the film, although he jokes at the end, "Or maybe he will!" This could be silliness, or it could be Pegg trying to avoid spoiling the film, or it could mean that the script is still in development and they don't really know who the villain will be. The latter seems most likely, but the Klingon rumors seemed like pure conjecture, so we wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't true.

Then again, there's also the chance that Pegg was flat out lying, once again in order to avoid spoilers. There's precedent for this, as a few years ago he told The Telegraph that Khan wouldn't be the villain in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Star Trek 3 also stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Zachary Quinto. It will be directed by Justin Lin, and is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
