New Concept Art for X-Men: Apocalypse Teases a Potential Archangel Appearance
Bryan Singer is up to his old tricks again. The director has just posted some new concept art for his upcoming movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, sending fans into a frenzy of guesswork in the process. The image (seen below) appears to tease the appearance of X-Men favorite, Archangel, who looks to be held captive at some form of freak show.

If this is Archangel, seeing him in captivity would be at odds with the character's traditional comic book origins, but it would potentially help to introduce another member of the X-Men team who has already been confirmed by Singer as having a part in the movie. In the comics, Archangel is originally known as Warren Worthington III, the son and heir to billionaires Warren Jr. and Kathryn Worthington. Worthington grows his iconic wings during his childhood and soon learns that he can use them to save lives, but there's never any mention of him finding his way into captivity. If this concept piece shows what I think it does, Archangel could be making an appearance at the same time as Nightcrawler, who will be played by Kodi Smit McPhee. As a child, Nightcrawler was raised in a German circus before being recruited into Charles Xavier's X-Team. That circus could be what we're seeing in this artwork.

Little is known of the plot for Singer's X-Men Apocalypse other than the fact that it will take place in the 1980s and deal with the notion that mutants have existed on Earth for thousands of years. X-Men Apocalypse will introduce a number of new faces to the franchise with Sophie Turner playing Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan playing Cyclops and Lana Condor appearing as Jubilee. Oscar Isaac will star as the movie's titular villain, Apocalypse, while Jennifer Lawrence makes her last ever appearance in the X-Men franchise, reprising her role as Mystique.

X-Men Apocalypse is released on May 27th 2016.
