James Gunn Updates on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Confirms Karen Gillan Will Return as Nebula
James Gunn has had very little time to bask in the glory of Guardians of the Galaxy's success since his movie exceeded expectations last summer, that's because he's been busy working on a treatment for a highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Gunn held a Q&A via Twitter's video streaming platform, Periscope, yesterday and updated fans on how things with the sequel were progressing.

"I turned in my treatment. I'm going in to meet about it Friday and we will start working on the screenplay next week," said Gunn. But Gunn revealed that work was already underway on the Guardians of the Galaxy script, saying it was already about 70 pages long and "very, very far along".

Gunn also revealed a few details about his plans for the movie, including the tidbit that not only would Karen Gillan be reprising her role as Nebula, but also that he was working on a way to work it so that she wouldn't have to shave her head for the role. Having Gillan return for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is great news as the role of Nebula felt a little under-explored in the the first movie. Here you have this strong, deadly assassin who has clearly got some daddy issues (who wouldn't with Thanos as your role model), but thanks to Gillan's performance, you always felt there was much more to her than just a lot of pent up rage. Nebula is clearly an ambitious character who will do anything to increase her power, but towards the end of the film there were hints that she was starting to turn a corner before her dust up with Gamora. Hopefully this arc will be explored in more detail when the second movie roles around.

Gunn also confirmed that, contrary to the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, the first movie's big bad, Ronan the Accuser, would not be returning for the sequel, saying ""Ronan is a bad guy, we killed him. Not everything is going to happen in the movies the same as the comics."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set for release on May 5th 2017.
