Marvel Celebrates S.H.I.E.L.D.'s 50th Birthday with One-Shot Comics for Agent Carter, Agent May, Quake, and More
For the 50th anniversary of Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., the comics juggernaut announced at C2E2 that it would release one-shots focusing on some of our favorite Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from all over the MCU. Not only is this announcement exciting on its own, but four out of the five characters are female, and the announced writers of the one-shots all have amazing pedigrees:

AGENT CARTER: Kathryn Immonen (Runaways, X-Men, Avengers)
AGENT MAY: Jody Houser (Orphan Black)
FURY: David Walker (Secret Wars)
MOCKINGBIRD: Chelsea Cain (New York Times-bestselling novelist)
QUAKE: Matt Rosenberg & Patrick Kindlon (Five Ghosts)

"While I can't say too much just yet, the link between these one-shots will be more thematic than story based," said S.H.I.E.L.D. story editor Jon Moisan in a Marvel statement. "While characters from other stories in the series might show up in issues other than their own, the true tie between these is in the way they celebrate and pay respect to SHIELD's past while creating really interesting ways for these characters to move forward."

Moisan also intimated that Peggy Carter's book will give readers more insight into her past and her relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D., and that the Quake storyline will explore her tortured relationship with her father and her previously unseen mother.

"To me, S.H.I.E.L.D. represents the glue that holds together the Marvel Universe... What really pulled me in as a fan, though, was the idea that S.H.I.E.L.D. is made up of 'normal people.' While I could empathize with Spider-Man or Iron Man, I could really see myself as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and to me, it's important to have something like that in a world of super heroes."

To be fair, Skye/Daisy Johnson/Quake is very much a traditional superhero, but his point is well-taken.

Specific release dates, as well as the artists working on the one-shots, have not yet been announced, but expect them to hit comic book stores around October, when the S.H.I.E.L.D. Omnibus Collection comes out.
