It sounds too good to be true, but Agent Carter has finally been renewed for a second season. Although it was universally acclaimed and achieved decent ratings, the Hayley Atwell starrer was on the bubble for quite some time. Last we heard, Atwell told fans at C2E2 that the chances for renewal "looked good," and apparently she was right.

This is amazing news, not only because Agent Carter's first season was well-written, well-acted, and showed plenty of potential, but also because it will go a long way towards female representation in superhero narratives. Supergirl has just been officially picked up by CBS, but it would have been a sad state of affairs if that were the only female superhero show alongside Arrow, The Flash, Constantine, and Daredevil (although AKA Jessica Jones is next on the Defenders slate).

We had known for quite some time that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was pretty much guaranteed a renewal, but ABC has also made the third season official. Marvel and ABC are also planning a spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is now confirmed to center around Mockingbird and Lance Hunter, as well as a mystery Marvel superhero show being developed by Oscar winner John Ridley.
