The X-Files Reboot Gets an Official Premiere Date in 2016
Fans were (mostly) overjoyed at the news that there will be an X-Files reboot, and it seemed too good to be true that after all these years, it would be coming as soon as this summer. As it turns out, that part is, in fact, too good to be true, as the official premiere date is now January 24th, right after the NFC Championship Game at 10pm ET.

The news came from a conference call about Fox's 2015 upfronts this morning, and when asked why the network would air the premiere right after a huge event like the NFC game, Fox replied that although the X-Files already has a passionate fanbase, they still wanted to give the reboot "the most maximum exposure" possible.

The X-Files reboot will return with six episodes starting in January 2016, and will begin production in June. After the premiere, the subsequent five episodes will take Gotham's slot on Mondays and serve as a lead-in for DC's Lucifer, which will hopefully improve the ratings for that freshman show.

All of the main creative forces behind the original, classic series will be back, as co-creator Chris Carter will return to the X-Files revival, as will stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Several classic supporting characters will also return, including the Smoking Man, Walter Skinner, John Doggett, and Monica Reyes.
