The Maze Was Just the Beginning in First Trailer for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
The first trailer from Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials has arrived, and it promises a significantly expanded universe, amazing visual effects, and lots of post-apocalyptic conspiracy-related action:

In the above trailer, Dylan O'Brien's Thomas and the remaining Gladers, including Kaya Scoledario's Teresa and Thomas Brodie-Sangster's Newt, believe that they've found a safe haven with the survivors of the other mazes, until Thomas realizes that they're just in another phase of the conspiracy, that they "never escaped the maze at all." The trailer looks significantly different from James Dashner's novel, but still serves the function that every second installment of a series should: exploring the ramifications of the events of the first film while developing the mythology of the fictional world.

The official synopsis for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials reads:
In this next chapter of the epic "Maze Runner" saga, Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD's vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is scheduled to come out in theaters on September 18.
