For the Love of Spock: Help Kickstart the Leonard Nimoy Documentary Narrated by Zachary Quinto
Three months ago, the Trekkie community was rocked when beloved Spock actor Leonard Nimoy passed away at age 83. Prior to his passing, Nimoy and his son, Adam, were working on a documentary that would celebrate the character Nimoy played for nearly fifty years, from the unaired pilot of Star Trek in 1964 to his cameo appearance in Star Trek: Into Darkness in 2013. Now, Adam is looking for fans' help to finish the project, as he has begun a crowdfunding campaign to make "For the Love of Spock," which would be narrated by current Spock Zachary Quinto, a reality.

Adam writes on the Kickstarter page:

This film was originally conceived as a tribute to Mr. Spock to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original series. Now, with Dad's passing on February 27th, the film will also explore the incredible career and artistry of Leonard Nimoy. But what has become increasingly apparent as I continue to work on this project is that it's also a personal journey.

Although I had initially intended to take a somewhat detached, objective view of the subject matter, more and more people involved in this film have urged me to interject some of my own perspective on what it was like growing up with Mr. Spock in the house, and how Dad's new-found celebrity and meteoric career affected my life.

The funding, which can range from $5 to $10,000 (which buys a producer credit) will cover continuing costs of production, as well as licensing fees for Star Trek film clips and photographs. The film will also reveal never-before-seen home movies and Star Trek artifacts which "have not seen the light of day for fifty years."

The campaign is seeking $600,000 by July 1, which is a little steep, but in just a few hours they've already received over $8,000. As Star Trek has such a passionate fanbase, as does Nimoy himself, that goal likely shouldn't be a problem.
