Samuel L. Jackson May Extend Marvel Contract, But Nick Fury Will Not Appear in Civil War
The cast of Captain America: Civil War is a veritable who's who of the MCU, but there are a few key MCU players who won't be present for the huge 2016 movie. Samuel L. Jackson's name wasn't present on the cast list, and the actor confirmed that he will not be choosing sides in Iron Man and Captain America's superhero conflict.

Jackson told Collider in a recent interview, "I finally met Mark [Millar]... and I finally got a chance to thank him for making Nick Fury black and changing the whole dynamic. It's really great to be the connective tissue between so many different characters in so many different films, that brings those guys together. But I'm not in Captain America 3. I can't figure that out, but I'm not. I guess I'm still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are."

We can't really figure it out either, as S.H.I.E.L.D. plays a huge role in the Civil War arc in the comics, and Cobie Smulders, who plays acting director Maria Hill, hasn't been on any of the cast lists either. But since S.H.I.E.L.D. was firmly on the pro-registration side in the comics, and Martin Freeman has been rumored to play the pro-registration Prime Minister of England, it's possible that he's meant to fulfill Nick Fury's role, especially since Jackson only has two films left on his contract.

These two films will presumably be the two-parter Avengers: Infinity War, but according to Jackson, he may extend his huge nine-film Marvel contract even further. When asked if he was interested in returning after his contract was fulfilled, he responded,

"Of course! I'm looking for a contract extension right now, yeah. I'm looking to re-up."

Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Paul Bettany as Vision, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, and more. The film comes out on May 6, 2016.
