Forest Whitaker Joins Star Wars: Rogue One
The cast of Star Wars: Rogue One just got a little bigger and more star-studded, as Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is reportedly "in negotiations" to join star Felicity Jones in the Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One.

According to the official synopsis, Star Wars: Rogue One follows a band of resistance fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans. Jones is confirmed to play a resistance fighter, while Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna are also expected to be joining the Rebel Alliance. There's no word on Whitaker's role yet, but our money is on a trusty mentor type.

Whitaker has been an established character actor for many years, and won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland in 2006. He will next be seen in the boxing drama Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams. On the nerdier side, he is currently filming Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi drama The Story of Your Life with co-star Amy Adams and is in talks to join that beleaguered reboot of The Crow.

Star Wars: Rogue One hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
