Winona Ryder to Star in Alien Conspiracy Netflix Series
Winona Ryder is set to star in Netflix's supernatural government conspiracy thriller previously called "Montauk."

The official synopsis states that the currently untitled drama is "set in the 1980's in the Long Island beach town and follows a two-year-old boy who mysteriously vanishes into thin air. Family, friends and cops try to uncover the truth about his disappearance, which ends up involving top-secret government experiments, supernatural forces and one very strange little girl."

According to Variety, Ryder will play the protagonist, Joyce, described as "the working-class mother of the missing boy. She summons a strength she never she had before, while rescuing her son from terrifying forces." She will star opposite The Newsroom's David Harbour, who will play the chief of police.

Although the series is described as a "government conspiracy" rather than an "alien conspiracy," it's safe to assume that the "supernatural forces" will have something to do with aliens, as rumors of government experiments in Montauk involving aliens began in the early 1980's. Referred to as "The Montauk Project," this long-running conspiracy theory alleges that the government ran secret tests in Montauk that ran the gamut from alien contact to mind control to time travel.

The series comes from filmmaking duo Matt and Ross Duffer, twin brothers who recently made their first feature film straight out of college, a horror film called Hidden that stars Alexander Skarsgard and is set to come out sometime this year. They will both direct, write, and produce the series.

The first season of Not-Montauk will consist of eight hourlong episodes, set to stream on Netflix sometime in 2016.
