David Fincher and Rooney Mara may be collaborating once again, as The Wrap's Jeff Sneider reports that Mara is "in talks" to star in Fincher's HBO adaptation of the British sci-fi series, Utopia.

This would mark the third time Fincher and Mara have worked together, after Mara starred in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and played a supporting role in The Social Network. This will also be Fincher's first traditional television effort, although he previously directed House of Cards, starring Mara's sister, Kate.

Here is the official synopsis for the British series:

The story follows a small group of people who find themselves in possession of the manuscript sequel of a cult graphic novel called The Utopia Experiments which is rumoured to have predicted the worst disasters of the last century. This leads them to be targeted by an organisation known as The Network, which they must avoid to survive. Using the manuscript, they must uncover the meaning hidden in its pages before the disasters depicted become reality.

There's no word on how closely the series will helm to the UK original, but if the characters do end up having analogues, Mara will likely play a version of either Jessica, a young woman who's been on the run from The Network for her entire life, or Becky, a grad student who believes her father's mysterious death is part of a conspiracy involving the manuscript.

Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn will be co-writing the series with Fincher, who plans to direct every episode of the first season. There's no word on a premiere date yet.
