First Real Fear the Walking Dead Clip, Plus Official Synopsis
After two completely generic teasers that told us nothing about the show, we finally have the first real footage from Fear the Walking Dead, featuring star Kim Dickens. It's still a short clip, but it's pretty revealing as to the tone of the early episodes, and it's chilling. It's by far the coolest thing we've seen from the show up to this point.
In the clip, Dickens's character, Nancy, who's a high school guidance counselor, is reassuring one of her kids that the rumors of a zombie apocalypse aren't true (woops). He says in a panicky voice, "Reports in five states, they don't know if it's a virus or a microbe - but it's spreading! People are killing!"
She tells him, "You need to spend less time online. The authorities would tell us."
Ending the teaser on that line is significant, especially since all the viewers know that the world as they know it is, in fact, going to come to an end. From this clip, it seems that the series will explore the government's reactions to crises in a critical manner, which will be fascinating and sociopolitically relevant if done correctly. And especially since executive producer Greg Nicotero recently claimed that Fear the Walking Dead took inspiration from real-life epidemics, including Ebola, I'm excited to see where they take this.
But regardless of how you feel about the footage, everyone will be glad to see an actual clip from the show after these two anticlimaxes:
AMC also released an official synopsis (finally!) along with the new trailer:
A companion series to "The Walking Dead," the #1 show on television among adults 18-49, "Fear the Walking Dead" takes us back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse – a time when the world was changing rapidly for reasons unknown, before anyone understood exactly what was happening, when life as everyone knew it was upended and altered in ways no one could have ever imagined. "Fear the Walking Dead" is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. The series, set in Los Angeles, stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris.
Fear the Walking Dead is set to air sometime this August.
