Star Trek 3 Title Confirmed, Director Shares First Official Picture
Rumors that the third film in the Star Trek reboot would be called Star Trek Beyond have been swirling around for months now, and as of last night, director Justin Lin has officially confirmed the title, and shared the first picture from the film as a bonus:

Although Star Trek: Into Darkness was a financial success, the third film has had a few logistical problems that have delayed production, particularly regarding the lead actors' contracts. But as of Friday, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto had both successfully re-negotiated those contracts, including a commitment to a potential (read: definite) fourth film. Now that the ball is finally rolling, Quinto shared a few behind-the-scenes photos of his transformation into Spock last week, but this is the first official picture from Star Trek Beyond.

It's clearly more fan service than a genuine reveal, as it's just a close-up of the Star Fleet Command logo. But regardless, it'll get Trekkies nostalgic and pumped, at least the ones that aren't fatigued with the so-so quality of the reboot series. And for those who are loyalists to the television show, maybe this will inspire them to send some mini-muffins to CBS.

Other than this picture, we don't know too much about the third film, except that the wonderful Idris Elba will fulfill Benedict Cumberbatch's role as the obligatory beloved English actor playing the villain, and that he apparently won't be a Klingon. And for those who, like us, feel that the movies have been underwhelming so far, Simon Pegg promised that the sequel would have the "optimism" and "frontierism" of the TV show.

Star Trek Beyond opens in theaters on July 8, 2016.
