Just look at the title: Batman v Superman was clearly intended to be the Avengers-type slam-dunk superhero juggernaut that would make DC's nascent cinematic universe a formidable competitor with Marvel. But in spite of the iconic pedigree, the more offbeat, antiheroic Suicide Squad is actually generating more buzz, at least if Youtube views are any indication:

As of now, the official versions of the Batman v Superman SDCC trailer has a little over 35 million views, while the Suicide Squad first look has almost 36.5 million views. There are several unofficial versions floating around, of course, but the first high-quality alternative version to come up in search results reflects the same outcome; on Movieclips Trailers, Batman v Superman has a little over 2 million views, while Suicide Squad has 7.7 million views.

From the reaction at SDCC, I'm not surprised. This can partially be attributed to the novelty factor; Batman v Superman has already had a teaser, while this is our first-ever look at footage from Suicide Squad. But fans in Hall H generally seemed more excited for Suicide Squad, and in my humble opinion, it just looks better. It's difficult to tell from just a minute of footage, but it has a great cast, it has an extremely creepy tone, and with so many comic book movies coming out, it looks different, and not just because it's about villains. Plus, Jared Leto's Joker is a big draw, and if the first look at the character managed to not be a huge disappointment with all the pressure of following Heath Ledger's classic Joker, we can probably count on his interpretation being successful.

Batman v Superman comes out in theaters on March 25, 2016, while Suicide Squad comes out on August 5, 2016.
