X-Men Apocalypse: Bryan Singer Shares Set Photo of a Ruined Cairo
X-Men: Apocalypse has finally started to release some official images from the highly anticipated sequel, and it hasn't gone all that well. While everyone was excited to see pictures of the new mutants, including Sansa Stark as a young Jean Grey, the first look at Apocalypse himself was an enormous disappointment, with many fans noting that he looks suspiciously like Power Rangers villain Ivan Ooze.

But the unofficial images are treating us a little better, especially that short video of Olivia Munn learning to fight like a ninja, and now this new image from Bryan Singer, which previews the destruction one would expect from a movie with the word "Apocalypse" in the title:

The set photo shows Cairo in ruins, presumably after it has been destroyed by Apocalypse. We know from the first plot details that Apocalypse, the first mutant in history, awakens in his tomb and decides to destroy human civilization for the greater good. We also know that he recruits a young Storm (Alexandra Shipp) to his side when he finds her in the streets of Cairo, and that they are joined by Psylocke and Magneto to become the Four Horsemen from the comics.

Although the pictures of Apocalypse didn't inspire confidence, we're still excited for this movie. He didn't look nearly as disappointing in the footage we saw at SDCC, and if this set photo is any indication, the film will live up to its name and provide plenty of big action set pieces and the destruction of major cities we've come to expect from these movies. And, at the very least, New York City is getting a break for now.

X-Men: Apocalypse comes out in theaters on May 27, 2016.
