Logan's Run Remake Back in Development with X-Men's Simon Kinberg
< >
Logan's Run is finally getting another shot at a remake. After languishing in development hell for years, X-Men writer/producer Simon Kinberg is attached to jumpstart the project.

Logan's Run, first released in 1976, takes place in a "utopian" hedonistic society that terminates all citizens when they reach the age of 30 in order to prevent overpopulation and scarcity of resources. The protagonist, Logan, is one of the "Sandmen," bounty hunters tasked with hunting down and killing "runners," or those who do not accept their fate of being vaporized on their 30th birthday, but ultimately ends up on the run himself.

The film was tepidly received when it first came out, but over time has become a classic of the genre, and there have been several unsuccessful attempts to remake it. At different points, Ex Machina's Alex Garland was attached to write, Bryan Singer and Nicholas Winding Refn were attached to direct, and Ryan Gosling was even attached to star, but none of the projects ever came to fruition.

Now, the latest attempt sees Simon Kinberg at the helm, as he has been hired to write the story and treatment for the remake. It's unclear whether he will write the actual script, but the script will reportedly be written "in the near future." For our part, we hope it will be Kinberg, as he is more than qualified; in addition to writing and producing for the X-Men franchise, he is also working on the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot and the Deadpool film, as well as serving as producer on the Star Wars anthology film and the Star Wars Rebels TV series. Although, we wouldn't complain if he was able to woo Alex Garland back, either.
