Tom Cruise Teases Edge of Tomorrow 2, Possibly with Emily Blunt
< >
Last year, Edge of Tomorrow became one of the best and most improbable guilty pleasures of the summer blockbuster season. It wasn't wildly financially successful, mostly as a result of marketing snafus (ie the title debacle), but it was a critical hit and a sleeper box office success. Now, star Tom Cruise is teasing a possible sequel, and even has a specific idea for the plot.

While promoting Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation at the New York premiere, Cruise told MTV News of his Edge of Tomorrow sequel idea:

Opening quote
"I pitched it to [Rogue Nation director and Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [Edge of Tomorrow director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I've got an idea for it."
Closing quote

We loved Edge of Tomorrow, and even placed it in our top ten sci-fi movies of 2014, but even we would have trouble swallowing a sequel without Cruise's co-star, Emily Blunt. Cruise acquitted himself well, but Blunt was one of the best parts of the movie. Luckily, Cruise agrees, and it doesn't sound like he'll move forward with the sequel without her:

"Gotta get Emily," he said. "I was like Emily, please. She was like, 'give me another year, please.'"

Cruise didn't give any details as to the content of the actual idea, but the real question is: what would they call it? Edge of Tomorrow 2? Live Die Repeat 2? Live. Die. Repeat. 2.? Or, will they pretend first movie had the right title, and call it All You Need Is Kill 2?

Speaking of All You Need Is Kill, the graphic novel on which the movie was based, it will reportedly get its own written sequel by the original novelist Hiroshi Sakurazaka. So if Cruise's idea doesn't pan out, they could always wait until this is published and steal Sakuraza's idea.
