Jurassic World Sequel May Have Open Sourced Dinosaurs
Jurassic World has become a runaway success, exceeding everyone's expectations and becoming the third highest-grossing film of all time. So naturally, we're already looking ahead towards the now-confirmed sequel, and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow (who will return to co-write and produce the sequel), assures fans that it won't just be a reiteration of Jurassic World's (admittedly successful) formula:

Opening quote
"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island," Trevorrow told Wired. "That'll get old real fast."
Closing quote

According to Trevorrow, Jurassic World 2 (or whatever it's called) will expand to a larger scope, as all great sequels do, and take the dinosaurs off the island:

Opening quote
"I feel like the idea that this isn't always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponize it and later on we found it could be used for energy."
Closing quote

In his envisioned sequel, InGen is like Apple, and other companies want to get in on the action, with disastrous results:

Opening quote
"This isn't something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur? And Dr Wu says in the film, when he's warning Dr Mesrani, 'we're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur.'"
Closing quote

The joy of the franchise lies in seeing dinosaurs romp about, and having them take over the entire world sounds just terrifying enough to work. Although the theme park worked like gangbusters, audiences will get bored seeing the same plot play out over and over again, and it's about time the dinosaurs made their way into densely populated areas, like major cities.

But although the sequel will expand the Jurassic World "universe," Trevorrow hastily clarified that Universal is the only studio who doesn't want to copy Marvel:

Opening quote
"I think that's an interesting idea that even if we don't explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand. I shouldn't use the word universe, because people will think we're making a Jurassic World universe — we're not."
Closing quote

The Jurassic World sequel will see the return of stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. It is slated to come out in theaters on June 22, 2018.
