The 9 Best Moments of the Hilarious Deadpool Red Band Trailer
Remember that Deadpool trailer from San Diego Comic Con that got a standing ovation and immediate calls for an encore? Now all of that crude, violent, hilarious, wonderful footage is online for your viewing pleasure:
Here are the nine best moments of the red band trailer (it's Deadpool, no one cares about the green band):
If you were worried that the writers would pull their punches regarding swearing or sexual content, this exchange with Ed Skrein's character will assuage those fears:
"You look like Freddy Krueger face-f*cked a topographical map of Utah."
"You are haunting. You look like an avocado that had sex with an older avocado."
The not-so-subtle dig at Green Lantern
Green Lantern is widely regarded as one of the worst superhero movies of all time, but like Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds is getting a chance to redeem himself. But that won't stop the movie from making fun of his embarrassing go-round with DC:
Deadpool loves breaking the fourth wall and giving us some meta-commentary, so it was perfectly charming to see him looking at a drawing of himself beating up a bad guy, who has an appropriately juvenile way of expressing pain.
Deadpool blows off some heads
Again, Deadpool wouldn't be Deadpool if it wasn't a hard R. And along with the ubiquitous swearing and seemingly graphic sex scenes, the Deadpool trailer delivers on the violence, blowing off heads, snapping necks, and running people through with swords. What more could we want?
The music choice
The song "Shoop" by Salt-N-Pepa was a perfect choice for the lighthearted, irreverent tone of Deadpool, and it gets even better when Ryan Reynolds dances along to it. The choice of rap music in general is perfect, because it's both aggressive and lacking in self-seriousness, just like Deadpool.
Morena Baccarin's existence
We love seeing Morena Baccarin in anything, even if in this trailer she seems to occupy the relatively thankless prostitute/girlfriend role. Hopefully the role in its entirety will be meatier, maybe even giving her some of the mutant powers she has in the comics and setting the stage for her to become a superhero in her own right.
The explanation of the costume
We've known that the costume is perfect ever since the set photos came out, but now we get to hear the official explanation of the red suit: "so bad guys can't see me bleed."
Gina Carano gives Deadpool a well-deserved slug
The exit line
Deadpool inhales gun smoke and says, "I'm touching myself tonight." Of course.
Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
