Fox CEO Confident of a Deal to Bring Live Action X-Men Show to TV
While their latest movie might be coming in for some serious criticism, another of Fox's Marvel franchises has been rolling along quite nicely. The X-Men have been a regular source of happiness for Fox execs in recent years; X-Men: Days of Future Past was received well by many fans, while X-Men: Apocalypse and the solo Gambit movie will tap even deeper into X-Men lore. Now, there's even more for X-Fans to look forward to, because Fox Television CEO Dana Walden has just revealed that the studio is inching closer to sealing a deal with Marvel to bring a live-action X-Men show to TV screens everywhere.

In an chat with THR, Walden said that fans could hopefully receive confirmation on the project in the very near future.

Opening quote
[For] X-Men, we're in negotiations with Marvel. We're hopeful we'll be able to announce something soon. We're not closed on a deal yet but it's something we're definitely pursuing.
Closing quote

Walden also confirmed that the ultimate goal was for the new X-Men TV show to be a "long-running" series, and not a mere revival. With both Warner Bros. and Marvel making significant expansions for the franchises on the small screen, an X-Men TV show would be a way for the studio to their properties continue to receive a solid level of exposure.

It's unclear where an X-Men show would fit into the Fox's current universe, but if there's a Marvel character group that lends itself well to TV, the multi-faceted X-Men franchise is certainly it. As we saw with the old X-Men cartoon, there are so many characters and storylines to tap into with the X-Men, and while a live action show is far trickier to pull off, this should be an exciting prospect for fans of the mutant collective.

But if this thing is going to happen, Fox has to overcome the hurdle of getting Marvel to sign off on it, and as we saw with the Spider-Man negotiations, they're a bunch who love to play hardball.
