In just two years time, humans will scientifically find evidence of god....Or at least, that is according to Nancy Kress's 1984 sci-fi novel, 'Trinity'. This is just one example of the many predictions for the future made by Science Fiction writers that have been gathered for a new infographic by Giorgia Lupi.

For decades now, Science Fiction writers have been laying down their predictions for the future of humanity through an stories with an unprecedented level of scope. As this infographic shows, those predictions have covered off a range of areas; from the impact of humanity on the environment, to the potential of our future exploration of the solar system and beyond. In total, Lupi and her team have assembled 62 major Science Fiction predictions, which between them span no fewer than 800,686 years.

Here are a few of our favorites:

- 2020: Humans can access the internet directly through their brains - Air by Geoff Ryman (2005)

- 2025: The scientific exploration of Saturn is now a possibility - Titan by John Varley (1979)

- 2026: Humans embark on their first colonial voyage to Mars - Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson (1993)

- 2050: Leaving Earth is best done by hiding in a giant sperm whale that is being shipped to another planet - Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke (1953)

- 2130: Humans now use child soldiers to battle malevolent insectoid aliens - Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (1985)

Personally, we're feeling pretty excited about the prospect of Cats walking through walls by the year 2188 followed by robot cats in the year 2966. The future is bright!
