J.J. Abrams Confirms No New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Footage at Disney's D23 Expo
After the exhilarating new trailer at Star Wars Celebration, we were a little disappointed when there was no new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at San Diego Comic Con. But luckily, there was an amazing behind-the-scenes video (and an impromptu Star Wars concert!) that was nearly as exciting. And with Disney's D23 convention coming up this weekend, Star Wars fans were definitely anticipating some new footage. But unfortunately, J.J. Abrams just broke everyone's heart and revealed that no new footage from The Force Awakens will be shown at D23, even behind-the-scenes footage:

Opening quote
"It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise," Abrams told EW. "In the fall, there'll be a trailer."

It's exciting that there will be another trailer in the fall, and it makes sense that Disney and Lucasfilm would want to spread their teasers out as much as possible, but this is still a huge letdown for those who are making the trek to Anaheim this weekend.

Opening quote
"We're thrilled to go to D23 and meet the fans, but it's a tricky thing to try and rush [footage] for a convention or preexisting event that would, of course, be fun to show something at," said Abrams.
Closing quote

But there's still a small chance that D23 attendees will get to see some new Star Wars footage, it just won't be from Force Awakens. There have been rumors that the first teaser for Rogue One will be shown at the convention, which would arguably be just as exciting. It doesn't come out for over a year, so there wouldn't be very much footage that would be ready to show the public. But it is shooting right now, and it was around this time that Batman v Superman showed that little ten-second teaser at Comic Con, so it's possible that attendees will see a tiny little snippet from Rogue One.

As a consolation prize, here are some new  high-res official stills from The Force Awakens, courtesy of Stitch Kingdom, which include IMAX and standard shot comparisons, Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma, and that fun First Order Nazi imagery from the international TV spot
