Shane Black's Predator Movie is Still Happening, Will "Reinvent the Franchise"
Remember when it was revealed that Predator actor, Shane Black, was reported to be working on a treatment for a new movie in the Predator franchise? Well, although things have been fairly quiet on that front, we've just learnt that not only is the new Predator movie still in the works, it's actually shaping up really nicely.

Collider caught up with John Davis at TCA, and the producer provided some words of reassurance on Black's project.

Opening quote
Shane shot a movie and he's doing a pilot now, but I've read a lot of his script and I think it's genius. I think it's genius and I think it's entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light. He's just an amazing writer-director. He's got a way of looking at this that makes you excited again. I love this franchise. It was the first movie I ever did. I remember in being in the jungle with Arnold as a 28-year-old and going, 'This is a fun business!'…Shane's amazing. He's an amazing storyteller.

So clearly Davis is feeling pretty jazzed about the the prospect of a new Predator movie with Shane Black in control, and it's not hard to see why. After all, Black is the man responsible for the Lethal Weapon series, Iron Man 3, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Those are some serious action chops, and when you consider the fact that Black also played Hawkins in the original Predator movie, you can't help but feel that the franchise is in good hands.

But just in case you needed more reassurance, Davis gave another update on the fact that Black is working with Robocop 3 and Star Trek: Enterprise writer, Fred Dekker.

Opening quote
Shane's got a writing partner, Fred Dekker. They've been doing it together and Fred's great. The two of them together, they've been in the business for a long time, but the writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I'm telling you you're going to get something you don't expect and you're going to say, 'This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.' I mean he's the guy who wrote Iron Man 3.
Closing quote

We're normally inclined to let out a huge, disappointed sigh whenever we hear news of the latest Hollywood reboot, but this feels different. With Shane Black in control, the reinvention of the Predator franchise feels less like a money grab and more a project for the people who love these movies. While neither Predator 2 or Predators were able to quite match the brilliance of the 1987 original, with somebody like Black in control- a man who knows and loves the franchise- it's hard not to feel a bit more optimism with this than you would with other reboots.
