What to Expect (and Not Expect) at Disney's D23 Expo This Year
Disney's D23 Expo is this weekend, and while most of it focuses on younger-skewing franchises, two huge geek properties will be there as well. Star Wars and Marvel are both under the monstrous Disney umbrella, and we can expect some hugely exciting announcements from both franchises this weekend. Unfortunately, some things we want to see won't be there (we're looking at you, Force Awakens), but the rumor mill still promises some huge developments.

Here's what you can expect, what won't be there, and what you might see at D23:

Almost definitely:

Captain America: Civil War footage

Much to our chagrin, Marvel skipped San Diego Comic Con this year, so they have a lot of ground to make up for. But the rumor mill suggests that we will almost definitely see the first footage from Captain America: Civil War. There was even a rumored breakdown of the footage, and although we have no idea if it's real, it sounded action-packed and spectacular. If the footage is anything like that, annoyed Marvel fans will be very forgiving.

Star Wars: Rogue One teaser

There's also a chance that we'll see the first glimpse of the Felicity Jones-starring anthology film, Star Wars: Rogue One. It doesn't come out until next December, so there presumably wouldn't be very much footage that would be ready to show the public. But it is shooting right now, and it was around this time that Batman v Superman showed that little ten-second teaser at Comic Con, so it's possible that attendees will see a tiny little snippet from Rogue One.

Maybe:

Preview of the Spider-Man suit(s)

With the recent rumors that Spider-Man will have more than one suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are further rumors that we'll get to see at least one of these suits at D23. According to the reports, Tony Stark will give Peter Parker a high-tech, "Avengers-friendly" red and blue suit in Captain America: Civil War, and then a more traditional spidey suit in red and black for the solo movie.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange is the next Marvel film after Civil War, and will enter production very soon. As a result, it's likely that we'll get some kind of announcement about the film, possibly which character Rachel McAdams is playing.

Definitely not:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Footage

This was a blow. J.J. Abrams broke all of our hearts when he confirmed that no new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be shown at D23 ahead of the final trailer this fall. But at least we'll (most likely) have Rogue One as a consolation prize, and who knows, maybe they'll be able to confirm those reports that Benicio Del Toro is playing the villain in Episode VIII.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

We have a title for the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, but that's about it apparently, as director James Gunn confirmed that he won't even be at the convention:
